Balance

July 6th, 2009

Balancing our everyday lives can be one of the most difficult things we do. Some loosely describe their version of balance as “spinning plates or fighting fires,” but who really wants to have a reactionary version of balance? Not me. Consider that the key to balance is the avoidance of extremes. As an example, think about the tire on your car. Should it be out of balance, it would be because on one side of the tire or another would have too much or too little weight. Think about our lives as tires rolling down the avenue of life. Where do we have an extreme? Is it that we are heavily weighted on the work side yet ignore our families. Could it be that we have too much fun and forget about work. Reflect for a minute of an extreme in your life and then write down why it is an extreme. For every reason on why it is an extreme in your life, write down a behavior you could immediately engage in to remedy the extreme. Remedying the flat spots on your life’s tire will make for a more pleasant life journey.
