Behavior Conditioning

May 10th, 2010

It’s spring and you know what that means.  We start doing all the things that we stopped doing when it went cold and dark.  I pulled out my bicycle the other day and got all excited to get back on it. Once I made sure it was ready to ride, I put my gear on, filled my water bottles and hit the road.  I took off like I was Lance Armstrong which lasted for about a mile. The next thing I knew I was sucking air and moving like a 90 year old crossing the street.   I knew I was a little out of shape from the winter but I didn’t think I was this bad.  I regained my breath, found my pace and finished a great ride.

I started to think about the behaviors I did all winter to get in the shape I was in. I went to the gym but not on a regular basis. At the gym I lifted weights and did very little cardio. I do have a spin bike at home and I did use it but again not on a regular basis.  My behaviors gave me the results I worked for, no more and no less.

I took this thought and put it into my professional life. What behaviors am I not doing that I should be?  BLOGGING, when is the last time you have read a blog from me.  Probably the last time I was on my bike.  You’re not going to see a ton of blogs over the next couple of weeks.  That kind of approach didn’t help on my bike ride and it won’t work with this.  I have put together a training schedule for my blogs and will stick to it so I can achieve the results that I’m looking for.  Just like riding my bike it’s going to be a struggle but I’ll keep on peddling or typing however you want to look at it.

GREAT reminder that if I drop off from a behavior from time to time, to get it “schedule back” in consistantly instead of BOMBARDING my SOI all at once. Something about the “slow and steady race” I believe:-)
