Can I have a re-do?

Have you ever been on a sales call when something comes out of your mouth that you immediately regret? What about getting off to a bad start the moment the prospect walks into your office? I know how I feel when this happens to me – IT’S OVER! NOW WHAT?
A few months ago I made a cold call and got the prospects voice-mail. I decided to leave a message. The prospect returned my call and left me a message so of course I ring him back. To my surprise when I connected with the prospect he was furious at the message I left him and basically did the old if you want to call me in a few months go ahead. Well I decided to cold call him again and ask for a re-do recently. I simply said I’m sure you have been in sales for awhile and can remember a time when you screwed up and wish you could start over right? Well that is how I am feeling now – can I have a re-do? HE ACCEPTED!
We are human. We make mistakes. We don’t always make the correct decision. Well guess what… so are our prospects! Just because we screw up on a sales call does not mean someone should not do business with us!
