Playing To Win
June 8th, 2009
I am finding myself consumed with our country’s state of economic affairs. My consumption with such matters doesn’t derive from how did we get here, or what’s next, or who’s to blame, but rather I am fascinated by how people are responding. I find it interesting how the majority of people hinge on every negative message as though a deadly plague approaches. Have we forgotten that we are Americans? It is the American spirit that has elevated us to be the envy of the world; it was the American spirit that brought us victory on two fronts in World War II; it was the American spirit that propelled us to victory in the race the moon; it was the American spirit that won the arms race; and it was the American spirit that kept us safe from domestic terrorism post 9-11. The American spirit has been our bedrock for countless generations—it is our resolve, our maverick, our devil-may-care attitude in the face of adversity, it is who we are! We are a “play to win” society and “play to win” we must. Foreclosures, bankruptcy and a struggling Dow are nothing to forward thinking Americans. Let’s extend our periscopes of optimism and look beyond the horizon and see what American’s have seen for years: hope, prosperity and freedom.
