Run Through the Tape
April 4th, 2011
Let the chaos begin, with Karate in full swing with our oldest T-ball has now started. The first few practices went very well and the Coach does a really good job with all of the kids. One of the first drills was running to first base (rumor is this is a challenge with first time t-ballers!). I noticed several of the kids were slowing down as they came upon the base. The coach quickly said to them “act like the first base is further away.” Because of this, the kids started to reach first base faster since they ran all the way to the base instead of slowing down when they were close.
Paul Lushin uses the phrase “run thru the tape.” At first it didn’t make sense to me until he explained it. When you look at a race, people stop as soon as they break through the tape. The same holds true in sales. No matter what goals you may have set for yourself run through them. Set the tape further away if you have a tendency to stop after finishing. If you want to truly break out of your own personal comfort zone continue running even if you are exhausted and you will notice a nice reward on the other side of the finish line.
